The True Story of Ah Q

By Lu Xun. Published between 1921 and 1922. A most celebrated work by Lu Xun that sharply satirizes Chinese society of the time and aims for social reform. By exposing the failures of the Xinhai Revolution and calling for national awakening, Lu Xun cemented his legacy as a titan in literary history.

Lu Xun

Born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, in 1881 as Zhou Shuren. His time studying in Japan at the age of 20 ignited his revolutionary ideals. Leading him to become a staunch critic of Qing Dynasty’s rule by a non-Han ethnic group. Returning to China at the age of 27, while working as a teacher, he pursued a literary career grounded in a keen awareness of reality and a deep empathy for the common people. He authored numerous works, including The Diary of a Madman, The True Story of Ah Q, and My Old Home. He passed away in 1936.
