The Honjin Murders

By Seishi Yokomizo. Known as the debut novel featuring detective Kosuke Kindaichi. The story centers on a locked-room murder set in a traditional house isolated by heavy snow. Published in 1947, it won the 1st Detective Writers’ Club Long Novel Award the following year, in 1948.

Seishi Yokomizo

Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1902. After graduating from the former Osaka College of Pharmacy, he joined Hakubunkan. He served as editor-in-chief of “Shin Seinen” and “Tantei Shosetsu”, and after leaving the company in 1932, he began his career as a writer. His works include “The Honjin Murders”, “Death on Gokumon Island”, “The Little Sparrow Murders”, and many others. In 1976, the film “The Village of Eight Graves” sparked an explosive Yokomizo boom. He passed away in 1981.
